Ann B. (Rusty) Shteir, Professor Emerita and senior scholar in gender, feminist and women’s studies, York University, Toronto, Canada

‘Sara Maroske is an exemplary social historian of Australian science. Her research on Ferdinand von Mueller and nineteenth-century botany has yielded particular fruit in recovering information about the more than two hundred women who collected plants for Flora Australiensis. Combining macro and micro approaches to knowledge, Sara Maroske’s attention to differences among her female subjects makes for findings that are grounded in the diverse realities of women’s lives in nineteenth-century Australia. Her chapter for Flora’s fieldworkers sets a high bar for feminist scholarship on women in the history of Science.’
